Curriculums
Tailor-Made, Not One-Size-Fits-All
At The LEAD Center, we reject the idea that a single curriculum fits every student. Instead, we use your child’s learning needs to create a Personalized Blueprint for success.
Our instruction is guided by the Virginia Department of Education’s Standards of Learning (SOLs), the Aligned Standards of Learning (ASOLs), and, most critically, your student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). This means every child receives instruction that is precisely tailored to their grade level, unique learning needs, and ultimate potential.
Students participate in a rigorous curriculum supported by the accommodations they need to fully access their education. Our teachers are skilled at using a wide range of tools to bring learning to life—from trusted textbooks and online platforms to hands-on discovery and multi-sensory strategies. We meet your child where they are to ensure they are always moving forward.
Instructional Mastery
Small Groups, Strong Success
We know that students who have struggled need focused attention to prevent them from falling through the cracks. Our school is intentionally designed to deliver personalized attention in dynamic, supportive settings.
- Small Group Power: Instruction is provided in small learning centers, ensuring a personalized environment.
- Elementary Classes often have groups of 3–4 students.
- Middle/High Classes work in small groups of 4–6 students.
- Dedicated Focus: For students in our adapted curriculum programs, instruction is often delivered one-on-one throughout the day.
This intentional design guarantees that every student receives the focused attention and immediate feedback they need to turn confusion into clarity.
Multi-Sensory Learning
Anchoring Memory Through Joy
Inside our learning centers, we don’t just teach with words—we teach with experience. Lessons are designed to engage all the senses: sight, sound, touch, movement, and sometimes even taste and smell.
Why We Teach This Way: This approach is rooted in research which shows that when multiple senses are activated, students anchor memory and accelerate comprehension. By teaching to each child’s dominant learning style, we help them stay engaged, motivated, and successful.
Creative Spaces
Where Discovery Happens
Learning at LEAD goes beyond the quiet rows of a traditional classroom. We believe that when learning is meaningful, interactive, and fun, engagement stops being a battle and starts being a joy.
It’s not unusual to see students on scavenger hunts through the school, practicing spelling words with sidewalk chalk outdoors, or engaging in unique movement-based lessons.
Our teachers are dedicated to making learning matter, ensuring that your students are not only mastering the material but are also enjoying the profound process of discovery.
